Building a visual identity for competitive gaming across the Arab world

I was the main designer for all Riot Games Arabic tournaments and Amazon-partnered university esports at GGTech MENA, creating the regional visual identity and broadcast design system from zero.

The Problem

GGTech Entertainment MENA operated Riot Games’ official Arabic language tournaments (League of Legends, Valorant, Wild Rift) and Amazon-partnered university esports competitions. When I joined, there was no unified visual identity for the Arabic-speaking esports ecosystem. Each tournament looked different. Social media assets were inconsistent. Broadcast graphics were created ad hoc. There was no design system, no template library, and no scalable process to keep up with the constant output required by a live tournament schedule.

What I Did

Visual Identity System

I created the foundational visual identity for the entire MENA esports operation. This included bilingual (Arabic/English) logo treatments, typography rules that worked across both scripts, color systems for different tournament tiers, and layout grids designed for the specific aspect ratios used across social, broadcast, and print.

Broadcast Design

I designed the complete broadcast package: stream overlays, lower thirds, transition screens, countdown timers, match result cards, and stage visuals. These needed to work at 1080p and 4K, look clean on mobile screens where most viewers watched, and be flexible enough that the production team could update scores and player names in real time.

Social Media System

I built a template library for Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube that the social team could populate without needing me for every post. Match announcements, results, player spotlights, schedule graphics, and story templates, all following the same visual language.

Event Design

For in-person events, I designed venue graphics, stage backdrops, player credentials, banners, and wayfinding signage. I also handled the Amazon university esports branding, which required integrating Amazon’s brand guidelines alongside GGTech’s and Riot Games’ visual standards.

Scale

This wasn’t one project. It was two years of continuous output across multiple concurrent tournaments, each with its own season schedule, social cadence, and broadcast production.

The Results

  • Regional visual identity created from zero, used across all Arabic Riot Games tournaments
  • 1,000+ concurrent viewers on broadcasts using my design system
  • 2,000 in-person attendees at events I art directed
  • Millions of digital impressions across social platforms
  • Scalable template system that let the team produce assets independently
  • Amazon partnership branding integration across university esports
